Dial A Ride provides fully accessible, door to door
transport for those who are either retired, have some form of disability
or who have difficulty using other forms of transport.

Starting in 1983 as part of the Scarborough Council for Voluntary
Services with one old, second hand minibus we have extensively developed
our services in the
area with a modern
fleet of fully accessible, specialized vehicles.
Our 10 minibuses and MPV (click here to check out our fleet) have either hydraulic lifts or ramps as well as low
steps and grab rails for ease of boarding. We have recently taken
delivery of a low floor minibus which allows even easier access. Seats
are fitted with all age seat belts which, for your own safety, we insist
must be worn on all journeys.
If you are not sure if you are eligible, please contact the office and
we will be happy to help you.
Dial A Ride is not part of the Health Authority or Social Services.
Although we receive some funding through grants, the rest of the income
needed to keep the service going comes from the reasonable fares we charge
and extensive
fundraising.
With our in-house trainers and training facilities we can provide
instruction for minibus drivers, car scheme drivers and passenger
assistants for anyone involved in community transport.
We employ some paid drivers, but rely on our volunteer drivers and
passenger escorts to keep Dial A Ride 'on the road'. All our drivers,
both paid and voluntary, receive training for driving minibuses (through
MiDAS) and also receive
training in first aid as well as many other areas of passenger safety,
comfort and awareness. Our friendly and helpful staff will give you the
appropriate support and assistance during your journey.
As for when and where you
can be taken? That's pretty much anywhere and anytime you like and, more
importantly, for any purpose you wish. We do have operating times, etc,
but please use the 'frequently
asked questions' link below for a more in depth look at how Dial A
Ride in our area works. It's really quite straight forward and only a
phone call away!
