Can I use the Car Scheme... ?
If you are over 60, registered
disabled, are referred by Social Services or
another caring agency, then the Car Scheme is
for you.
If you are not sure if you are
eligible, please
email or call the office and we will be happy to
help you.
Telephone the office on 01723
501015 between 1:30pm and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. The first time you call, we will take all necessary
details. There is an annual membership fee of £5.00 to use
the Car Scheme. Then, you need to tell us when and where you want to
go.
We will call you back to confirm your trip. Once your trip has
been completed you simply pay the driver.
You can use the Car Scheme at any time providing we can find a
volunteer driver for your journey.
There is a mileage charge for using the scheme to cover the
driver's costs for running the car. This fare will be
calculated by our booking officer when she has found you a driver.
The current mileage charge is 40p per mile with a minimum of
£4.00. (Note: shorter journeys less than 10 miles will still
cost £4.00 with 40p per mile going to the driver and the remainder
going to the scheme's running costs)
In addition to the mileage charge there is a £1.00 administration
charge per trip.
So, as an example, a 20 mile round trip would be 20 miles times
40p plus £1.00 totalling £9.00.
Yes. Registration is easy and can be done over the phone.
We only need the briefest of details: name, address, daytime phone
number and if there are any mobility issues.
All information we hold is secure and is never revealed to anyone
else
If you need to cancel any trip,
please do so with as much notice as possible. Try to avoid
cancelling on the day, or even the day before. We have to turn down
many requests each day from people who need to use the Car Scheme. If we
arrive at your house and you have not cancelled your journey, then
we may have to make a charge to cover the driver's costs.
Can I make regular trips?
We can accept 'regular' or
'block' bookings. If you want to go at the same times on the same days then
we can book this as an ongoing request.
However, you must be sure
that you are able to keep this commitment. If you cancel at short
notice on several occasions, we may have to stop the regular
booking.
If you know you are going away, then you must cancel the
dates you do not need well in advance. This way other people can
use our service and your regular booking will still be in place when
you return.
